What is the NHS?

The 49er-Haters Society often goes by its shortened name, NHS (Niner-Haters Society), or the symbol of the slashed helmet above. The Society is for fun and for the purpose of exercising the opinions of people that do not like the 49ers. The NHS is not interested in profane or slanderous attacks, but rather exposes what goes unsaid in the mainstream media and therefore enlightens the average NFL football fan.

While members of NHS come from all over the world, the management of the Society is performed mostly from the San Francisco Bay Area, in the heart of the Evil Empire itself! The NHS sells no products, instead relying on membership donations and volunteer work to maintain the website and other operations.

How did the NHS come to be?

Following the birth of the 49er Bandwagon in 1981, it became increasingly clear to many die-hard football fans that there was something different and insidious about the 49ers. There was arrogance, ignorance, hypocrisy and double-standards associated with the franchise to a degree never before seen in football, or any other sport for that matter. Compounding the fact of its existence was the blatant effort by the media to conceal the obvious truth about the 49ers. The opinions of 49er-Haters were censored by a media intent on propagating the image of the 49ers as "the Best Ever", "Class of the NFL", etc., and we were left alone to wonder if we were the only sane persons left who could see through this blatant facade.

In January 1996, thanks to the freedom of the Internet, the NHS website was born. It was truly a pioneering effort considering that the Internet was still mostly unknown and the number of websites throughout the world numbered in the thousands, not the millions of today.

Slowly, the phrase "49er-Haters" became officially known throughout the world of NFL fandom. Thousands discovered that they were not alone in seeing The 49er Problem, and over 500 people, representing almost every state in the U.S. and countries from Europe to Asia, signed up to become Official Members of The 49er-Haters Society.

Thanks to the support of this worldwide membership, the NHS has presented what we call The 49er Problem in weekly game reviews and countless other articles ever since. Finally, 49er-haters everywhere had a voice, their opinions in writing, and the evidence to back what we've always believed about the 49ers; i.e., the truth.

Why is the NHS needed?

Look around this website and you will quickly understand why the NHS is needed. We have built a rap sheet detailing many things about the 49ers, its ownership, its fans and its media that are happily accepted every day, yet need to be questioned. For years, we have listened to excruciating statements such as:

We are needed to expose the arrogance, ignorance, hypocrisy and double-standards associated with the 49ers, a.k.a., The 49er Problem.

Why does this web site only contain the negative side of the 49ers?

For one, we believe that the mainstream media already provides the positives of the 49ers, so there is no point in repeating a lie that is already being said over and over. Our task is to enlighten the average football fan so they can make an educated opinion of the truth of the 49ers.

Because the mainstream media only shows football fans the hype of the 49ers and hides the negatives, the average football fan has a false impression of the 49ers. Therefore, we provide the other side of the coin. We focus on and expose the things the mainstream media covers up about the 49ers, thereby completing the picture for the football fan. Fans can now take the propaganda they get from the media, combine that with the facts and opinions of this website, then make an educated opinion on issues relating to the 49ers.

Why do you disrespect the 49ers and their fans?

We are not concerned with respect, we are only concerned at helping people find the truth. Just because an event or issue reveals something ugly about the 49ers doesn't mean it must be covered-up out of "respect" -- just ask the Dallas Cowboys. The truth mandates all sides of an issue be known, no matter who is affected, and if the media is not going to do this with the 49ers, we are forced to pick up where they leave off.

Our focus is the opinions of 49er-Haters, not 49er fans, and we have no interest in insulting or otherwise "converting" 49er fans. Certainly, many of our opinions will rub 49er fans the wrong way, but remember, we do not force 49er fans to come here. Certainly we welcome any persons -- even 49er fans -- who are interested in educating themselves, but if they choose to visit, our name alone is more than an adequate warning.

Who is the NHS?

Many members of the 49er-Haters Society grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and needed an outlet to voice their censored opinions. Whereas the mainstream press heaps love and adulation on the 49ers, this is the place for the opposite, alternative opinion to be known. Living near San Francisco is not a prerequisite to becoming a member-- the common dislike of the 49ers and recognition of the 49er Problem is enough. We have members from all across the world!

Does the NHS have a favorite NFL team?

The Society does not support any particular team. The NHS is made up of many different people representing fans of just about every NFL team. We have all come together to protest The 49er Problem due to the preferential treatment the 49ers receive from the NFL, referees, media, and so on.

Do we make hating the 49ers the priority of our life?

No, of course not. This page is purely for fun, and if people get upset about it, maybe we are hitting closer to the truth than we thought?

Membership Information

We never really expected the Society to go over so well with the public. We, too, thought we were alone in seeing a problem with the 49er hype and propaganda that permeates our daily lives. But here we are, spreading the word through a website that has been viewed by tens of thousands of people and a membership that makes our voice strong.

We decided that 500 members was a good milestone at which to stop. Our primary goal -- to spread the word that there are those who hate the 49ers despite the media's propaganda to the contrary -- has been reached. We therefore are no longer accepting new members at this time.

Thank you for visiting, and spread the word of the cause!
