If you aren't a member of NHS, you're missing out. Here's where we'll sum up our many activities, so you can see what's in store for you...

It's always a good time when the NHS gathers together!

2nd ANNUAL GATHERING

The 2nd Annual NHS Gathering was another big success. When we last got together, the 49ers won their playoff game against the Eagles. No biggie, we all knew Green Bay would romp the next week. Obviously, we had such a good time regardless of the outcome that we fearlessly scheduled this second gathering on opening day against the Bucs. Little did we know.

Yes, the Bucs stomped all over the Whiners and every 49er-Hater in the joint left with a hoarse voice. And little did we know that our Society would go over so well with the other patrons that had never yet been exposed to our kind. Remember, this gathering was held in the South Bay Area, or bandwagon-central.

When people spotted NHS members proudly wearing their shirts they demanded to know more about NHS and wanted to be a part of it. Luckily, we brought a stack of bumper stickers which folks lined up to receive, much to the chagrin of the establishment and 49er fans.

All in all, one couldn't ask for a better day. Yet we know that more future gatherings bring the promise of more great days.

1ST ANNIVERSARY PARTY

The NHS One Year Anniversary Party was a hit! On the surface level, the food and drink were good, and there were plenty of laughs and good times. Everyone enjoyed watching the game, discussing its nuances, and complaining about the 49er Problem! But there was an even deeper meaning to the day.

Over the last 15 years, the 49ers have won over 70% of the time. Yet, 49er-Haters still have the courage to defy the odds as the small minority that publicly announces their hatred in the face of the most obnoxious bandwagon fans in sports history.

But Sunday's One Year Anniversary gathering put a spin on everything. Official 49er-Haters came from as far as Portland, Oregon, and Fresno, California to celebrate what we've accomplished in so little time. Once all the 49er-Haters were assembled, the NHS contingent actually made up the majority in the establishment. A big part of being a 49er fan is the comfort of being in the majority, so the 49er fans in the room reacted uncomfortably as their merlot and cheddar world was invaded.

For one stormy afternoon, the world actually seemed sane because of this unique majority. Sitting amongst the 49er-Hater faithful, everywhere around you was intelligent football conversation by what could only be described as football experts. Any question of the game or football history was quickly answered as the wealth of football knowledge among the 49er-Haters was staggering. And the most important part: everyone understood the 49er Problem. Everyone had pierced the veil of the 49er facade long ago, so you could speak freely and know you belonged. It was probably the good, safe feeling that 49er fans take for granted every day, yet transcended even that because it wasn't based on myth and propaganda, but truth.

In sum, the One Year Anniversary Party was a resounding success, so look for many more 49er-Haters gathering in the future!

MEMBERSHIP DRIVE IS ANOTHER SUCCESS

Three members of NHS wandered the festivities in the Oakland Coliseum parking lot prior to the Green Bay-Oakland preseason game, spreading the good word about NHS. It was the third such membership drive held in Oakland. Don't be surprised if you see someone driving around the Bay Area with an NHS bumper sticker attached to their car!
