Dear Ed:

My office is in receipt of your $2,500 check to the Vince Lombardi
Cancer Research Fund in connection with the incident at Lambeau
Field following the Packers-49ers playoff game on January 4, 1997
and the Green Bay City Attorney's subsequent decision in the
matter.

As we have discussed, you recognize that conduct of the type which
occurred after the 49ers' playoff loss in Green Bay reflects poorly
on yourself, the club and the National Football League. Such
conduct cannot be condoned by this office regardless of whether it
involves players, coaches or club chief executives.

You as the owner of the 49ers would not tolerate this conduct if it
involved any team employee. I expect you to set the example for
both your front office employees and your football personnel.

I am pleased that this entire affair is behind you and that any
future physical encounters between the Packers and 49ers will be
restricted to where they belong, i.e. the football field.
