Following trial, a Montgomery County, Virginia jury quickly acquitted 49ers backup QB Jim "Druck" Druckenmiller of charges that he raped a Virginia Tech student in March, 1999.
The incident occurred when he was visiting his old college town of Blacksburg. It was alleged that after a night of partying, Druck removed the clothing and assaulted the student while she was passed out. The defense's stance was that the woman "actively pursued" Druck in order to have sex and consented.
Prosecutors attempted to have the rape trial removed to a more neutral jurisdiction to no avail. Instead, jury members were pooled from a community where Druck was a college football hero.
Druck has been accused of violence before. A civil case is still pending against him from a 1996 bar-brawl incident in which he allegedly maliciously wounded two fellow students.
A rape conviction would have proved convenient for the 49ers. His strong arm never fit in with the 49ers, so if guilty, the team would have escaped any blame. Further, the team has been trying to unload him ever since Bill Walsh made known his feelings that Druck was one of the worst draft picks in team history. Given his multi-year, seven-figure salary and unproven talent, no team has been stupid enough to bite, and simply cutting Druck would be too large of an impact on the 49ers salary cap. But NFL rules allow teams to cut convicted criminals without pay. In fact, a conviction would have been so convenient that many individuals emailed us wondering if the proverbial 49er briefcase full of $100 bills was involved with the woman's "active pursuit".

Did Eddie's penchant for bribery carry over into football? NHS asks the tough questions the media won't.

Dana Stubblefield, part of the so-called "best tackle tandem in football" became part of a new tandem. He's the second 49er in recent history after William Floyd to be arrested for driving under the influence. Stubblefield was arrested on a Sunday, yet nobody told about it until Thursday.
Stubblefield's arrest was followed by the arrest of former 49er Tim Harris for not only driving under the influence but also for allegedly punching a woman in the face.
Junior Bryant replaces the departed Stubblefield not only
on the defensive line, but he, too, has driven under the influence.
DUI is a 49er tradition that nobody talks about.
